Spring

April - May

The above image is taken at the local beach in May 2023.

  • Spring is potentially one of the most un-noticed seasons in the Arctics. Sometimes it will just go from winter to summer over night and we just skip spring altogether. This means that if you are lucky, you get landscapes covered in thick snow and with bright sunshine in early April. It can be one of the most magical seasons if you’re in to that sort of thing - skiing with a t shirt on! As May approaches you start getting the feeling of actual Spring, and for this month you really dont know what to expect. There has been years where we have 20 degrees all of May, and years where there is still snowing in May.. So if you are feeling like a bit of Russian Roulette, this is the month to come to the Arctics!

  • Birch sap, fir shoots, nettle in may onwards, fiddle heads, seaweeds.

  • In Spring the nature still feels a little bit quiet but with a magical moment of the return of birds like the Puffin. The ocean still hosts the whales, and that alone is worth the trip.

  • Well.. what can we say, pack it all!? This is probably the hardest season to pack for. There might be snow, there might not be snow. In 2023 we had snow storms all of May, and then on the 17th of May there was 20 degrees, wind still and blazing hot sun. So, get all those layers in your bag and be creative!
